Yoga derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolising the union of a person’s body and consciousness. Yoga asanas build strength, flexibility and confidence. Regular practice of yoga can help lose weight, relieve stress, improve immunity and maintain a healthier lifestyle. It brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve a peaceful body and mind; it helps manage stress and anxiety and keeps you relaxing. It also helps in increasing flexibility, muscle strength and body tone. It improves respiration, energy and vitality. The Faculty and staff of IIT Bhilai works towards a stress-free, peaceful campus community covering all wellness aspects as physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, etc. Various events and activities are conducted in the institute actively.


Essential Physical Activity involves a two hour yoga and medditation session every morning. Physical activity or exercise can improve your health and reduce the risk of developing several diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease. Physical activity and exercise can have immediate and long-term health benefits. Most importantly, regular activity can improve your quality of life. A minimum of 30 minutes a day can allow you to enjoy these benefits.


Prayatna, the annual intra institute sports tournament. Prayatna, which means “effort”, is aimed to arouse the sportsman spirit of the budding technocrats. The main motive behind this three months long competition is to promote healthy competition among the students. With Prayatna, IIT Bhilai hopes to clearly establish the intricate importance of sports in everyday life, and this is joyously complemented by the students’ friendly and supportive attitude towards this endeavor.


Unity Run, is observed on 31st October. Sardar Patel, the "Iron Man of India", is credited for the merger of over 560 states into the Union of India. The central government observes October 31 across the country as a day of special occasion to foster and reinforce the government's dedication to preserve and strengthen unity, integrity and security of the nation by celebrating it as a 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' or National Unity Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.IIT Bhilai on Thursday 31st October 2019 flagged off “Run for Unity “to commemorate the 144th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in the Campus. The 'Run for Unity', which began from the Academic block, saw the participation of a large number of students, faculty and staff members of IIT Bhilai.

Inter IIT Sports Meet 2019

The students of Indian Institute of Technology, Bhilai participated in the 54th Annual IIT Sports meet 2109 held at IIT Kharagpur and IIT Bhuvneshwar. The very best of our athletes and players participated in various tournaments like basketball, volleyball, chess, table tennis, athletics and badminton. With sheer determination and team work, IIT Bhilai students made it to the final in badminton and football.

International Day of Yoga 2019

Indian Institute of Technology, Bhilai witnessed enthusiastic participation during the 50-days' campaign towards a holistic journey for a peaceful mind in a healthy body. On 21st June, International Day of Yoga, a grand yoga programme was organised in the Academic Block of IIT Bhilai. The programme was graced by Prof. Rajat Moona (Director, IIT Bhilai), Mrs. Rajni Moona, Dr. Veena Bansal and Dr. Suchetan Pal.

Prayatna 3.0

Indian Institute of Technology, Bhilai is back with the third edition of Prayatna – “PRAYATNA 3.0”, the annual intra institute sports tournament. The main motive behind this three months long competition is to promote healthy competition among the students.Prayatna 3.0, organized by the Sports Council of IIT Bhilai, was inaugurated on January 16, 2020 in the venerating presence of Prof. Rajat Moona, Director, IIT Bhilai. among other esteemed guests.
